London-Great Britain from September 8 through 18, 2011
London is tourist friendly-the language is English-bought a week pass for bus/train the very next day.
Thursday September 8, 2011
London is big –a lot to see. The first day as usual nothing happened- got off at Kingcross Station also known as St. Pancras Station. (And the only thing I am thinking #HarryPotter)
Friday September 9, 2011
Bought one week Oyster Card-top up (top up mean load it up) with London Phone card and out on the road. My cousin house is located in the East side of London; the bus station Brook Green. I will take bus #72, 220, 295 or 283 to Shepherds Bush station (double decker bus –which I always sit on top in the front)-change to bus #148 and this will take me to center of town Westminster Station.
Westminster Church from the outside it is ordinary simple church. To see the inside you need to pay 10.00 pound or if you are participating an hour 5:30 pm church service it is free. You could go inside for free and also you will be able to hear & watch the Westminster Abbey well-known choir sing. Today is dedicated to finding out what is where and marking it on the map. I decided not to be in hop-on hop-off bus; but the original tour of Hop-on Hop-off bus was giving away a free map of London attraction at the bridge crossing Westminster. I took it gladly and start circling in what I want to see- I located the house of Parliament, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Big Ben-which is next to the house of Parliament and in front of Trafalgar Square. AT 5:30 I went back to Westminster Abbey- to participate church service and enjoyed listing to the Choir. It is nice to see all this places you heard of it, read about it-seen it on TV and movie..to be inside and look at it at my naked eyes were priceless.
Saturday September 10, 2011
Up in the mooring- went out to see the other side of the town-when I get to center of the town-it was 11:30-I went straight to the Buckingham Palace to watch the Change of Guard. A lot of people-I watched it but did not able to secure a good spot. London must be leaving at the Tourist fund. I could not believe how many people were out there!! Unbelievable…..
Sunday September 11, 2011 Ethiopian New Year 🍾🍾🎉
Took a break to have family time- lunch at my other cousin house. Fun field day- eat and drink the Ethiopian way in London City.
Monday September 12, 2011
I do enjoy self-touring in my own pace, I do not take bus and I walk fast-
Today is dedicated for discovering the Southbank
- Swiss Re-tower it is also known as the Gherkin; the truth I don’t understand why the could not build this type of building is confusing
- Tower Hill
- St. Paul Cathedral
- Tate Modern
- Tower of London
- Tower bridge
Before that I want to secure the best spot to see the Change of Guard at Buckingham Palace. I arrived at 9:30 am- the Change of Guard will start at 11:30 am and last about 45 minutes. One of my cuz joined me at around 1130 am-she said she been living in London for the last five years, but she never came down to see the Change of Guard and she did not know about it either. She and me enjoyed the show-it is like a July fire work-it is fantasy –it does not look like real. It looks like a movie in a making
1. Southwark Cathedral– while walking towards Southbank –I see this very old church-I stop by to see the church and start reading –one of the people from the church help write King James Bible. It has a lot of history
2. Tower-bridge– walk in the top even though it is not that exiting. I thought I would be walking outside, but it is a built in passage way with glass. It did not trill me at all- what made me exited is the opening of the London bridge –totally wonderful experience.
3. When I get to Tower of London– it was almost 5:30- the tower closed at 5:30- look at it from outside –I am sure it would have been an experience to go inside- it looks like from medieval
4. The Swiss re-tower or the Gherkin –is a breathtaking structural building- it looks like a big Egg.
5. London need more than two weeks- I did not able to see Tate modern, Shakespeare globe and St. Paul Cathedral- need to be reschedule.
If you love history, you will fall in Love with London. No ideal moment; so many place to be, so many churches, museums to visit.
Tuesday September 20, 2011 spent with family.
The New Mall-which I was told the biggest in the world-Westfield Mall. I did not care that much- I am not a mall person-beside I am budget traveler-I do not have that much money to spend and London pound is expensive-my dollar does not have value at all. By the way-I did receive my new credit card when I get to London, but the credit card is only to be used in case of emergency. My day spent doing window shopping- at 3pm alas – Done.
Wednesday September 14, 2011
Today the first thing will be to visit Buckingham Palace and the last thing will be London Eye. I bought my entrance ticket to the palace at 9 am for 10 am tour. I took a tour of the Buckingham Palace Garden- think of it as Central Park of New York – this one facing the Palace –lot of lake. Went back to Buckingham Palace- and I did not left the Palace till 2pm. The highlight of the Palace tour –Prince William and Kate Middelton wedding –her wedding gown-see it in my naked eye –listen how it was made- the dress may look a very simple when you look at it on the TV-but when you went to the palace see it and hear the detail of the making of the dress-you will learn what an extraordinary dress it is. At the Palace gift shop I bought tie 100% Silk and it was made with the same curtain design in the Palace.
I am so tired-and my back pack feel heavier- I stop by the Palace café to eat th–after I left the Palace I walk for a while bought about 5 T-shirts for 20.00 pound. I tried to walk to London Eye, but changed my mind-I am too tired took the bus the house. Headed out atlate night to see the city at night from London Eye capsule. The London Eye capsule move in fraction of seconds- yes you could see the city-but you just do it so that you would not regrets it. It is not all that!! But it looks nice to look at it from outside. The House of Parliament looks very nice at night and some of the bridges–especially when you look at it from the capsule

At 10 am catch the bus # 10 to king cross station-will get off at Euston Station- it will take about 55 minute –time to enjoy the City from top deck of bus # 10. The bus went through the well-known Oxford Circus – change bus # 30 towards Hackney Wick and get off at Hayburry. MY sinus –allergy is in full blown – I have taken one Benadryl but I am sneezing and blowing my nose. I think my body is exhausted
11:28 Hayburry Sation; went out to take picture of Arsenal Stadium at 15:43 (3:43 pm). This is another reason I want to come back to London – what is good to come all the way to London and if you are not able to watch even one football game.
